Group Members
GlitchPC
Conclusion
During the initial stages of the assignement we were all put into groups and chose from a selection of eight story lines which one we would work on. Everything seemeed to be going well however, as the end of term one approached everyone in the group except myself and Alex Bedminster had dropped out. This became a big problem for Alex and I because as a group we had deligated work amonst ourselves to ensure that everyone contributed equally towards the project. Without the effort of the other team members, the responsibility of completing the project fell solely on myself and Alex.
After a lot of discussion Alex and I decided that we both had enough motivation and passion to continue the project. This was a lot harder to acomplish now but we had not anticipated how hard it would be until we delivered our first pitch to the class. Our main criticism was that the story line was not clear enough and this was due in part to the fact that Kanika Andrews, the original director and story writer of the Glitch was no longer part of the team. Things were not looking good and our tutor wanted to drop our project. In a desperate attempt to salvage the work we had already put in, we began to rebuild the story line with the help of Rahul Allen, and completely changed the outlook of our project from negative to positive over the Christmas break.
The onset of term two brought about more problems for us as essays and dissertations made it harder for us to keep up with the momentum of the project. To keep up we had to work literally day and night. We were overstreatched with the work but our passion and dedication kept us going. For the first time we could see that out project was coming together and it was a very exciting time for us. Despite all of the pressures of dissertation and time constraints, we still managed to meet up on a weekly basis for progress meetings. The end of term two presented a more positive outlook as our tutors were very impressed with the quantity and quality of work that had been accomplished by such a small group. They were suprised at how hard we had worked and were keen to see what the finished product would look like, as were we.
Term three was a much more relaxed term for us compared to term one and two. I personally had a lot of technical issues this term as I lost a lot of work on my computer which I had to redo from scratch. This was obviously very time consuming and slowed me down. This affected the group as they needed to see my work in order for the project to progress. I appreciate the support and understanding that my colleagues showed me during this time as we were all under a lot of pressure to get the work done. We created action plans of what was left to do in the project and deligated the remainder of the work amongst ourselves. Rahul was recruited into the team mainly to be a freelancer who would work on small scenes and after effects. Alex and myself undertook the responsibility of directing the whole production of the film on top of working on it from start to finish. We did modelling, animating, lighting, texturing, sound, concept art, storyboarding, animatics, productions, posters, logos, contracts, production schedules, organising meetings and directing. We continually changed and developed ideas as we went along so much so that our final storyline is nothing like the original storyline Kanika had written. The work load was immense and at times we did not think we would make it to the end but we did, and I think we did it pretty well.
The end result of the film in my opinion is a success. I am proud of my group for all the hard work they put into the project and I am also proud of myself for rising to the challenge that this project became. I am staisfied with the hard work I delivered and am pleased that I did not let my team members down by not pulling my own weight.
Though I am proud of the film there are a few things that I would change if I were to do this project again. The first being the length of the animation. To be on the safe side I would make it shorter only because a longer film runs the risk of losing the audiences attention if the storyline is not engaging enough, but I guess this will have to be left to the viewers disgression. Alex and I worked independently when it came to the animation side of things. He created his slides and I created mine. However, when we both came together every week we found that certain things needed to be modified. Though we wanted the secens that we worked on to be different to one-another to show our own individual artistry, we also wanted them to look united, and part of the same film too. One of the main things that aided us well in our group was our time management and level of communication. This, as-well-as our hard work was the key to our success.
As I have said before, I am grateful for the commitment and devotion my team members put into the project because this made my life a lot easier given the circumstances. I would like to say a big thank you to my tutors Jarred Taylor, Dan Darley and Mike Smith for all their feedback and input, Robert Newman for co-ordinating the sound, Rahul Allen for being the most amazing freelancer and last but not least, my co-producer Alex Bedminster with whom I would have been very lost without.
The film was a success with just the two of us working on it. At times I wonder if it would have been just as good or better had we had all the original members in our group. Though there was a lot of workload working in a smaller group, I feel in a way it was an advantage for us because co-ordinating a larger group would have left more room for error. Alex and I knew that the majority of the work fell on our shoulders so we knew what we had to do from the start. If we had had all our members on board and some decided to slack off at any point I doubt we would have been able to pick up the pieces as successfully as we have done.
Final hand in!
Last bits and pieces!
I must say that in terms of finding the sounds, i didnt find any! alex done most of that!
We arranged another group meeting just so that we could all come in and help compile the sound in order to have a finished film!! Rahul didnt show up so Alex and i spent over two hours compiling the sounds music etc! I was pleased with the sounds that Alex picked, considering we dont do anything to do with sound
compliing, i must say high five to Alex and I for doing what we done! this shows that as a team Alex and I are very good at working with each other and this film shows that we can!
we then took upon ourselves to create the clock times because we didnt have time to do an actual clock and render it! so we do it photoshop and added it in on prem pro! this took a bit but not as long as the sounds!
There was also one last aspect the we had to do which was LONG! and that was our own colour grading! Alex had shown the film to his parents and obviousy to thoes who dont exactly know the story, there will be bits and pieces of the film that would confuse them and thoes parts are the glitch universe! Alex's parents gave us a little idea of how we can make the scenes more clear and that is simply by adding a block colour ontop of the actual scenes! so we spent a bit more time on photoshop and prempro making these adjustments!
Finally finished and when viewing it, we were pleased with the outcome! the sounds which we added, and the extra bits and pieces that we done on photoshop and prem pro had enhanced the film a lot more!
Almost there!
We did a few tweaks on each scenes here and there after viewing the final video. the main paret we had to fix like Rahuls scene and spead it up, we still thought that it dragged out longer then needed so we had to speed it up a lil bit!
Also parts of my scenes were speed up and slowed down because a few part need to be worked. After compiling the final video once more, we gave the video to Robert Newman (sound designer) and told him to meet a week later to check his progress.
The film is looking strong, and most importantly it is turning out how I first pictured it in my head apart from the fact that we had to change the city to a universe.
There are certain scenes that I fill are spot on and a few scenes that I feel needed a bit more work on but none of which will mess with the timing of the video so that the sound will still be on point!
Alex and i previously gave Rahul the task of creating the credits for the film which he has done and looks very very good! but obviousy there were bits and pieces that need to be done and Alex and I stepped in and told him what need to be added and teken away from the credits, we told him to change and the colouring and the font, and slo to make the font a lot more clearer, we also to play with timing and images that would be shown. I also asked him to create the clock which will be a usefull aspect to the scene!
Final police scene
this is the final animation of the police orbs! i must say that i like, and when showing the group a lot of questions were asked because they were pleasently surprised as to how i animated it! they liked it and the way in which it worked out because this scene was one of the scene that i needed a lot of creativity on, i feel that i have done a good job!
playblast of the police scene
Obviously spotted the time of the animation is SOOOOOOO SLOW! this is because like i said, maya was playing games with me! i actually felt liike I had a glitch lol! and i was reacting the exact same was as vernon was! it was pissing me off. so i had to basically jus animate and playblast it! I had no other choice but to speed up the animation in prem por because redoing it all over again was LONGGGGG! but with the new speed i tend to like the movement of the animation!
Animating the Screene!
animating police orbe and screne! police seat
animating police orbe and screne!
Creating the orbs!
The creation of the orbs wasnt exactally hard because all i needed was an orb (sphere) and then created the srine, coloured it, added text and that is it!
Meeting with Dan
Brief thought!
Every few days the group and i are meeting up, showing each others work and discussing things that are or are not needed in the film, giving ideas then adding the rendered scenes onto the animatic.
This week Alex and I met up with the sound designer and who showed a small demo of the sounds that he had used! we were extremely please with his work which was a huge booster to our ego, but although the sounds used were slightly patchy in certain places and the timing was a bit off, he knew all of this and reassured us that this was only a demo to show you the types of sounds and style in which he was going to be working with. The remaining member of the group was then showed the work and he was also pleased with the progress Robert had made!
I feel that i am now ahead of plans and am very pleased because although i know we are coming to the end this project i just know that somehow a lot more work would be added into schedule! all in all i am a very happy chappy
Now that we have all met up and checked out eachothers work with dan! we decided to go off and create seporate action scheduels just so that we are all on target and will al be able to meet or targets! here is my action plan!
As seen in this action plan, the only day wasted is a saturday! the only reason why this is, is because i work all day and would like to rest after work! although i have taken saturday as a day off i know that i will not be having that day off! i know deep down that every day of mine will be busy! so let just wait and see!
meeting and Changes!
Everything was clear and no problems. After this meeting we all sat down and decided to make a list of some changes that we needed to do in order to make the film better. There were a lot of ideas thrown around to give our film a better edge and I ended up making a list to which everyone had in order to help us!
May 14th
CHANGES
* Credits overlay on beginning scene
* Change cuts on veron introduction scene
* Clock to show time
* Never have static camera on Princes scenes and animate binary moving.
* Electrons/orbs going through wire on first transition, camera follows orbs into mother board and into the Rahul's room.
* Prince's scenes need to be rendered with Quantel PAL res (NOT 640x800)
* Alex needs to give Rahul 5 second clip to show in my credits.
* Prince Glitch scene, have glitch close to camera, flash steps away a few times then on last flash step Glitch is right up close to the screen to make the viewer jump back.
* Vernon not sitting at desk in scene 10, but squatting on his chair typing frantically.
* When Vernon puts in anti-virus CD, camera zooms into CD drive and follows police orbs through the wire into princes scene.
* Vernon face turns red like thermometer using prem pro/after effects.
* When critical error on princes scene, camera starts with a red screen, zooms back slowly to reveal glitch then zooms back even further to reveal the red glitch infected world. (Make sure the whole screen is filled with storms, clouds, red lighting, red binary, red electricity etc......)
* After Prince's red infected glitch world scene, grabs keyboard and smashes it, letters fly out towards screen spelling out "Glitch". camera transition back through the wire and looks at Vernon from behind the screen. Vernon grabbing screen(camera) and shaking it and falls over and drops the screen on it side/diagonal position (Vernon looks distorted/fish eye/concave).
* Last scene, Vernon peeking his head from underneath the table and looking at the screen, screen says "welcome to....the worlds most reliable computer systems ever)
Video
In order for me to get this right i had to go back to walk cycly basic by key framing the beginging ang the end then going back and doing the in betweens! I placed glitch in one position and keyframed it! moved him to another position and keyframed that! i then went back to first keyframe and moved it one across so i dont mess aess around with the actual size of glitch! i streched squashed and scaled him down him untill you cant see him anymore, this make it looks like he has dissappeared! i then done the same technique at the frame before the last keyframe so it looks like he is reappearing at a different position!
Animating Glitch!
Rendering the transition!
even doing so at uni gave a bit of trouble because of the aspect of space and each render took at least 10 mins per render so i couldnt exactly stay and wait for 230frames to render! so i had to work it out and render bit by bit!
also the i had a lot probles with the glows in the scene! mainlyt wasnt too pleased with the brightness of each of glows!
Everything self animated!
Remodeled Environment!
I am once again begining to get excited as i am viewing the univesre all animated and looking good!
The screne shot shows that i have begun to add coloures on the different items placed in the universe! damn right looking good :-)
Rahuls Textures
Still decideing on environments!
I have decided to remodel the whole city again and begin the actual keyframe secondery animation of the city!
this is going to take me a while so i have dedicated one whole day inorder to recreate and another day to colour!
Although i will be changing the look of the actual unicerse there are a few items that i will be keeping as part of the scene! one of which are the police stations in the universe! I have created and animated and will give to Rahul to texture!
Environments Environments Environments!!
New glitch Universe!
After meeting (changes)
Reaching the finish line
Second term conclusion
So far this term has been (I feel) a lot more structured compared to last term. looking at a brief at each of our work,
Rahul's work: viewing his blog I am please with the work he has produced. It fits in perfectly with with a link to my work and seems like his work will fit in nicely with the film. Next term he will work alongside me with the Glitch world, and help to texture one or two bits and pieces of my environment environment.
My work: I personally feel that my work seems to be making a good shape. I wasn't 100% sure on how I was gonna structure the environment (the Glitch micro world), but after seeing some of mt renders and the way in which the environments turned out to look I must say that i was pleasantly surprised with my self. I got excited and now just awaiting to see some renders of alex's work. obviously next turm i will be still working on the Glitch universe and start animating as well as compiling a few transactions between the scenes that Lex and I had previously discussed.
Alex's work: Looking Great! completely stiisfied and pleased with the environment that he has created so far and obviously the model of vernin! looking forward to seeing more of his stuff!
Next term he hopefully will be able to animate and add sound to his scenes and environments in order to bring it o life. I expec that he will enjoy working on this. I know that with alex being an animator he will be looking forward to putting his scene and character together!
so that was my actual conclusion for the second term! LOOKING FORWARD TO TERM THREE!
Bring it on!
From style to styalised.
SCENE 05: Glitch infects the first string of binary. Binary changes colour to red once infected and the binary stops moving as well.
SCENE 07: Shows binary (infected) becomes blue or green again, but glitch infects another one, which then creates a chain reaction and infects another.
SCENE 09: Glitch has almost infected the whole world. Camera shows glitch world slowly being infected to the max
SCENE 11: Virus scan works and police orbs start flying around shooting the infected binary and returning it to normal until all is clear.
SCENE 13: police orb drives off camera and the camera shows glitch hiding behind binary.
SCENE 15: Glitch world completely infected and glitch flying about with evil laugh etc…
with the additional help of Rahul, the group has been formed and clear as to what we will be doing for the project.
After talking to our tutors about our progress, we were give many different ideas and different dierctions to go in order to make the story visually pleasing.
the first issue he adderssed was obviously the glitch universe which i am in charge of. his idea was for us not to creat just a normal city but infact to make it more styalised and abstract. another issue he picked out was the character Glitch it self. he insisted that the character should not be a character but left as a normal orb.
ideally the roles have not changed, but i will be getting that additional help from rahul in terms of the animation and some of the dynamics that are going to be used in the universe.
We indeed took on borad the tutors ideas and created a new set of storyboards and blockouts.
these are our new roles.

Although it may seem like Rahul has not got much work to do, he will play an inportant part when it comes to the dynamics and special effects that surround the glitched universe.
after having our presentation at the end of last term, Me Alex and Rahul decided to go through the story once more and finilise it.
we changed mainly the part in the glitch universe. innatially the universe was meant to be a city, as i had no idea how i was going to create this city i continued with research and came across one film that hepled put all my ideas together. the film is one of Keanu Reeves earlier movies named Johnny Mnemonic.
this film helped me to come up with the fact that the city is changed into a universe, gathering ideas from this allowed me to create the city with a rough idea as to how it will look!.
dishearted
Being honest For like a week I had lost main hope in the project because i did not have a complete idea of how the city would look and also with people dropping out of the group, it dis hearted me a little bit so i started a side project that i had always wanted to work on. Also I have a lot of other things going on during these week, financially and emotionally but i have had to keep strong and keep going on. all these problems have taken place in week7 nearing the end of term.
I still kept contact with Alex exchanging ideas for our scenes but still i did not much of a solid idea of the city.
here are some of my concept designs of my idea for the city.
I feel that with these designs i have come across doing this the wrong way because i have already begun creating the city before i done some concepts.
the following screenshots and images are showing the idea i originally had in my head.
The making of glitch city
Glitch concept.
I know im gonna laugh only its because it is alex drawing them. It is personal joke between me and alex.
